Accidental laboratory infection with trachoma.

چکیده
THE isolation of stable strains of trachoma virus reported by T'ang, Chang, Huang, and Wang (1957) and confirmed by Collier and Sowa (1958) has made possible the study of the early stages of this infection. Collier, DukeElder, and Jones (1958) have reported studies on blind volunteers and the following account of an accidental laboratory infection is reported as confirmatory evidence that the viruses isolated are indeed the cause of trachoma.

The Frequency of the Accidental Contamination with Laboratory Samples in Yazd Clinical Laboratories’ personnel in 2011
Abstract Background and Objective: Laboratory personnel have always accidental exposure to clinical samples, which can cause the transmission of infection. This threat can be prevented and controlled by education for the use of safety instruments. The purpose was to determine the frequency of accidental exposure to laboratory samples among Yazd laboratory personnel in 2011. Material and M...

Transmission of chlamydiae by the housefly.
The ability of the housefly to carry viable Chlamydia trachomatis and to transmit a chlamydial ocular infection was studied under laboratory conditions. After feeding flies (Musca domestica) on suspensions of egg yolk sac infected with C. trachomatis serotypes A or B (responsible for hyperendemic trachoma) the agents were reisolated from flies' intestines for up to 6 hours and from their legs a...
متن کاملExperimental trachoma produced by cultured virus.
IN a previous paper (Collier, Duke-Elder, and Jones, 1958) we described the results of inoculating human volunteers with virus isolated by Collier and Sowa (1958) from a patient in the Gambia with trachoma. Three volunteers were inoculated by the conjunctival route, and in one, an anophthalmic man, an unequivocal infection was induced with all the conjunctival and laboratory signs of trachoma. ...
متن کاملThe efficacy of oral azithromycin in clearing ocular chlamydia: Mathematical modeling from a community-randomized trachoma trial
Mass oral azithromycin distributions have dramatically reduced the prevalence of the ocular strains of chlamydia that cause trachoma. Assessing efficacy of the antibiotic in an individual is important in planning trachoma elimination. However, the efficacy is difficult to estimate, because post-treatment laboratory testing may be complicated by nonviable organisms or reinfection. Here, we monit...
